Presented here is a unified approach to evaluating the error-rate performance of digital communication systems operating over a generalized fading channel. What enables the unification is the recognition of the desirable form for alternate representations of the Gaussian and Marcum Q-functions that are characteristic of error-probability expressions for coherent, differentially coherent, and noncoherent forms of detection. It is shown that in the largest majority of cases, these error-rate expressions can be put in the form of a single integral with finite limits and an integrand composed of elementary functions, thus readily enabling numerical evaluation  相似文献

Capacity of MIMO Rician channels   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper presents exact results on the capacity of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) Rician channels when perfect channel state information (CSI) is assumed at the receiver but the transmitter has neither instantaneous nor statistical CSI. It first derives the exact expression for the average mutual information (MI) rate of MIMO Rician fading channels when the fading coefficients are independent but not necessarily identically distributed. The results for the independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) MIMO Rician and Rayleigh fading channels are also obtained as special cases. These results are derived using a different approach than the one used by Telatar for the i.i.d. Rayleigh case. The complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of the MI is also obtained using a Gaussian approximation. The CDF of MI can serve as an upper bound to the outage probability of nonergodic MIMO Rician channels. Numerical results confirm that for a fixed channel gain, a strong tine-of-sight component decreases the channel capacity due to the lack of scattering.  相似文献

In response to the ongoing demand for low power applications, the two first authors have recently proposed in F.F. Digham and M.-S. Alouini (2004) a discrete-modulation and fixed-power non-coherent M-ary frequency shift keying scheme. In this paper, we propose an extension of that work by studying a discrete-modulation and continuous-power (DMCP) scheme for further power saving over Nakagami fading channels. The modulation level and power assignment are selected in order to minimize the average transmitted power while meeting average spectral efficiency and bit error rate constraints. We further investigate the problem with an additional peak power constraint. In this case, the modulation switching thresholds are shifted to higher values yielding reduction in both the achievable average spectral efficiency and the average transmitted power. However, the power loading function can be re-shaped to maintain the same average power of transmission for the cases on no-peak and with-peak power constraints. This reshaping is designed so as to involve constant power portions which can be of interest from a practical stand point.  相似文献

Outage probability of diversity systems over generalized fading channels   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Outage probability is an important performance measure of communication systems operating over fading channels. Relying on a simple and accurate algorithm for the numerical inversion of the Laplace transforms of cumulative distribution functions, we develop a moment generating function-based numerical technique for the outage probability evaluation of maximal-ratio combining (MRC) and postdetection equal-gain combining (EGC) in generalized fading channels for which the fading in each diversity path need not be independent, identically distributed, nor even distributed according to the same family of distributions. The method is then extended to coherent EGC but only for the case of Nakagami-m fading channels. The mathematical formalism is illustrated by applying the method to some selected numerical examples of interest showing the impact of the power delay profile and the fading correlation on the outage probability of MRC and EGC systems.  相似文献

We propose and analyze new finger replacement techniques for RAKE reception in the soft handover (SHO) region with multiple base stations. The proposed schemes are basically based on the block comparison among groups of resolvable paths from different base stations and lead to the reduction of complexity while offering commensurate performance in comparison with previously proposed schemes. Relying on the newly derived analytical expressions, we investigate not only the complexity in terms of the average number of required path estimations/comparisons and the SHO overhead but the error performance of the proposed scheme over independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) fading channels as well. We also examine, via computer simulations, the effect of path unbalance/correlation as well as outdated/imperfect channel estimation and show the robustness of our proposed scheme to these practical limitations.  相似文献

We study the exact average output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and symbol error rate (SER) of M-ary phaseshift-keying (PSK) signals with coherent equal gain combining reception. The analysis assumes independent Nakagami-m (1960) fading paths, which are not necessarily identically distributed. On one hand, we use geometric summations to obtain closed-form expressions for the average output SNR over diversity paths with an exponentially decaying power delay profile. On the other hand, capitalizing on an alternative integral representation of the conditional SER along with Gauss-Hermite quadrature integration, we derive an average SER expression in the form of a single finite-range integral and an integrand composed of tabulated functions. We also present a simpler but approximate approach for the closed-form evaluation of the SER of these signals over independent identically distributed Nakagami-m fading paths  相似文献

Capitalizing on the Moschopoulos (1985) single gamma series representation of the probability density function (PDF) of the sum of gamma variates, we provide a PDF-based approach for the performance analysis of maximal-ratio combining and postdetection equal-gain combining diversity techniques as well as cochannel interference of cellular mobile radio systems over Nakagami (1960)-fading channels with arbitrary parameters. Aside from putting under the same umbrella many of the past results obtained via characteristic function (CF) or moment generating function (MGF)-based approaches, the proposed approach also allows the derivation of additional performance measures, which are harder to analyze via CF or MGF-based approaches  相似文献

Accurate and fast algorithms for the local mean signal level estimation are very important for the successful implementation of many wireless communication enabling techniques such as handoff, power control, and adaptive gain control schemes. In this paper, we present on‐line simple‐to‐implement (i) minimum variance unbiased and (ii) maximum likelihood estimators for the local mean signal power estimation in the decibel domain. We consider a generalized Nakagami‐m fading environment and show that these estimators are asymptotically efficient in the number of samples and in the fading parameter m. Numerical and simulation results confirm that these estimators outperform the sample mean estimator and quickly approach the Cramer–Rao lower bounds. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The literature is relatively sparse in performance analysis of diversity combining schemes over Weibull fading channels, despite the fact that the Weibull distribution is often found to be suitably fit for empirical fading channel measurements. In this paper, we capitalize on some interesting results due to Lieblein on the order statistics of Weibull random variables to derive exact closed‐form expressions for the combined average signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) as well as amount of fading (AF) at a generalized selection combining (GSC) output over Weibull fading channels. We also use some simple AF‐based mappings between the fading parameters of the Weibull distribution and those of the Nakagami, Rice, and Hoyt distributions to obtain the approximate but accurate average SNR and AF of GSC over these types of channels. The mathematical equations are validated and illustrated by some numerical examples for scenarios of practical interest. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The Gordon-Haus limit can be partially overcome with the combination of in-line filtering and receiver dispersion compensation. Theoretical analysis leads to an analytical jitter calculation and its predictions are in good agreement with the corresponding simulated values. It is shown that even if the receiver dispersion compensation technique becomes less efficient with narrow filters and is limited by pulse broadening, an optimum choice of system parameters allows an effective reduction of the Gordon-Haus jitter by a factor of 3.5 for trans-Pacific links with a penalty-free transmission  相似文献
